T'SOI Girl Bridal Look

In a traditional ceremony the bride’s saree is tied to the groom’s scarf to symbolize the union of the souls.

The Mangala Sutra, Varmala & Sindoor is used as a symbol of marriage. The Saptapadi, or the 7 Pheras, is the fundamental core of a Vedic wedding. The bride and groom take the seven vows around the Agni as a witness. With heavy decoration, big gatherings, singing folk songs & dance, Indian wedding is full of events. Durga—also known as Bhavani, Amba, Chandika, Gauri, Parvati and Mahishasuramardini—is the ‘Mother goddess’ and the ‘Protector of the Righteous’ to Hindu devotees. This is a nine-night celebration that more broadly celebrates the divine feminine. She is characterized by her ten arms carrying various lethal weapons (i.e., a chakra, a sword and a mace), as well as her vehicle—the lion.

On the last day of Shardiya Navratri, women from the Bengali community offer vermilion to Maa Durga. This ritual is known as Sindoor Khela. All the married women present in the pandal apply vermilion to each other. With big hawans, prasad and traditional attire this festival is all about celebrating women called as the shakti (power).
